Top 7 Last-Minute Tips to Help You Ace the SAT Exam


1.    Know about the SAT test

Knowing the SAT exam pattern and SAT exam syllabus will help you to make a clear study plan. Plan the SAT exam dates and do the SAT registration well in advance. SAT test series will be a good source for practicing tests.

The SAT exam consists of four sections,

1.    Reading

2.    Writing & Language

3.    Math

4.    Essay (optional)


Math

The math topics are mostly the basic mathematical concepts

 that are taught from 6th grade to 10th grade. There are two sections -Math section with the calculator allowed (55 mins) and Math section without Calculator. (25 mins)  

 

Verbal

Reading test - (65 mins) This section measures the comprehension skills of students.

 Writing & language - (35 Mins) This assesses the students’ knowledge about grammar.

 

 

Essay

Time: 55 mins You need to demonstrate how clearly the author explains with evidence or examples to support his claims. So, you are not required to give your opinion such as agree or disagree.

2. Don’t Panic

If you have enrolled for the best SAT course and are taking SAT classes from experienced trainers from an esteemed SAT coaching institutes, then you have nothing to worry. Relax!!!  “Fear defeats more people than any other one thing in the world”.  Efforts that you put so far to boost up the preparation may vanish. Relax and -Chill out. Have a good 7-8 hours of sleep before the exam day.

3. What to Study Before a Day?

Don’t Study anything or everything that is available. It won’t make an impact on your score. So, Keep a distance from your SAT books. If you really want to study something, don’t learn any new concepts. You can just revise the formula or some final piece of information which is required to remember the whole concept, but don’t spend more than half an hour.

4. Checklist

Don’t pack your bag on test day. Better pack and check everything before the test day.

Here are some essentials which should not be missed,

     ❏    Admission Ticket - Take a print out from the College board website
Photo ID - Original government Issued Id card (Aadhaar/ Passport or School issued ID card). It should be unexpired and make sure that the name exactly matches with your name on the admission ticket.
    Two Pencils, Erasers and Sharpeners
    Approved Calculators
    A Face mask - Because of Covid’19     It's advisable to have a drink / Snacks for the breaks and have a watch without alarm.

5. Don’t Snooze!!!

Wake up early on the test day.  You should be at the test center at least 45 mins prior to the allotted time. This will provide you ample time to check in before the test begins.  It is highly recommended to know the distance and time required to reach the test center before the test day so that you can plan accordingly.

6. During the Exam

      Don’t leave any question unanswered.

       Make sure that you bubble the answer sheet often.

       If you complete the test before the prescribed time, use the time wisely to check your answers.

      Use calculator in Math section only if it is required

      Follow the test instructions. The College board is very particular about the security. If anything happens which reduces your concentration, inform your proctor before you leave the exam hall.

7. Breaks

Utilize the break time effectively. You will get two breaks. We recommend that you don’t sit in the exam hall during the breaks.  Consume the snacks to energies yourself. You may wish to use the wash room. Chat with your friends but not about the test.

During the breaks avoid consuming heavy snacks. Instead, healthy snacks may boost your energy level.

The SAT exam is one of the steps in your admission process. So, remain calm and prepare well.
